The goal is not the summit…

In recent years, Sabrina Filzmoser has already achieved a lot with her development project “Everest Judo” in Nepal and Bhutan in the Himalayan region. The last major project ran under the name “Forever Everest,” supported by the International Judo Federation (IJF). On a “journey” from sea level to the summit of Mount Everest, judo schools were visited, training sessions and materials were provided, and judo values were conveyed as an educational method. Here is a brief overview of what has been accomplished through “Everest Judo” so far.

But the summit of the “Everest Judo” development project is still far from reached! There is still much to come…

Forever Everest

  • Climbing Mount Everest from sea level: Starting with a mountain bike ride from India to Nepal, then to Everest Base Camp, helping to set up the Base Camp before the season, and ascending Mount Everest.
  • The main focus of the entire “journey” was the development project EVEREST JUDO.
  • Stopovers at judo schools along the way from India to Base Camp.
  • Promoting judo values.
  • Interaction and engagement with the local population and Sherpa community.
  • Raising awareness for climate protection.
  • Generating media attention for EVEREST JUDO: A film documentary and book about the journey are forthcoming.

Bhutan

  • Judo as a subject in the first school through school director Karma and his Japanese wife Rie, with support from “Everest Judo” and related international support.
  • At the Pelkhil School in Thimphu, judo is an integral part of the curriculum.
  • Bhutan became a full member of the International Judo Federation (IJF) through the initiative of Sabrina Filzmoser and “Everest Judo.”
  • Construction of a dojo with the support of the Japanese Embassy.
  • Scholarships for young judokas through Japanese companies.

Nepal

Support for schools in Sherpa villages at the foot of Mount Everest:

    • Monjo School (2,840 m), led by Kazi Sherpa.
    • Sir Edmund Hillary School, Khumjung (almost 4,000 m) -> the highest place where judo is taught and practiced.
    • 2022: Inauguration and opening of a judo school in Khumjung by Sabrina Filzmoser.
    • In 2022, the Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality introduced judo as a school subject in all schools in Khumbu.
